6.10.12 – general grant tree grove loop (sequoia)

On our final hike of the day, Laura and I enjoyed a sweeping loop of the General Grant Tree Grove. It’s basically a grove laden with huge sequoias, including the famed ginormous General Grant tree and another famous tree that you can walk through (see pics). It’s an easy loop and anyone should be able to do it. Most of the trail is paved actually. You can go beyond the loop, however, as we did a bit, and explore some of the nearby springs and creeks. The deterrent here is a fair amount of people but the sight of these crazy huge trees makes up for it.

getting there: This grove is just in a bit after the entryway for Sequoia/King’s Canyon ($20 per car or free with interagency pass). Its marked clearly on the left side of the street, a bit after the YMCA Sequoia Lake turnoff.

time: 27:00

distance: ~1 mile

elevation gain: 104′
