7.21.11 – cogswell reservoir via the west fork

I got out to the West Fork last week and mountain biked the 7 mile paved trail up to Cogswell Reservoir. This trail is pretty easy for the first 6 miles and then ascends steeply towards a helipad. It can be hiked, biked, run, rollerbladed…whatever. The first mile is usually laden with tons of city slickers looking for a nice dip in the West Fork of the San Gabriel River. However, once you past the bridge/1 milemarker, the crowds disappear.

The details below are from my bike trip. If you’re going to hike this thing, the #’s will be different (duh!).

Distance: 14.5 miles r/t
Elevation gain: 1,461′
Time: 1:33:22

Calories: Probably somewhere around 2,000
Calories consumed: 500
Food consumed: 3 hammer gels
Water consumed: 1.5L
Electrolytes consumed: 8 oz of hammer heed/perpetuem mix

Weather: 75 degrees and clear
